City of Houston Parking Regulations - new/updated in 2023

  • APK-1 Expired Parking Meter - There is not a valid parking session for the license plate in the system or the meter shows expired.

  • APK-2 Overtime Parking - The posted (sign or meter screen) time limit for the space or blockface has been exceeded. Paying for additional time to exceed the time limit will result in a citation.

  • APK-14 Parked within 20 feet of a crosswalk-intersection - Parking too close to the corner blocks the view of pedestrians crossing the street or oncoming traffic. You also must park 30 feet from a sign or signal.

  • APK-13 Blocking the Sidewalk - Sidewalks must remain clear for pedestrian safety. A car cannot block the public sidewalk while parked in the driveway.

  • APK-20 Parked more than 18” from right-hand curb - A legally parked car must park with the flow of traffic. The passenger wheels cannot be more than 18” from the curb.

  • APK-5 Parked on street more than 24 hours - Parking in the same space on the public street is limited to 24 hours. The vehicle must move after 24 hours.

  • APK-21 Parked in handicapped zone - Only a vehicle with a valid disabled parking placard or plate can legally park in a designated handicapped parking space. Do not block the access aisle.
